Floor lamp made from an old weathered white oak wagon/planter tongue found when tearing down a barn. The tongue was 10 feet long (last photo) and dates to mid-late 1800’s based on the type of nails found in it. The weathered texture of the wood is absolutely amazing and I can’t seem to get the pictures to do it proper justice. I used a vintage-style “Edison” bulb with cloth covered electrical cord, old barn bolts and finished with amber shellac just to seal it.

Farmhouse Style Table

Custom commissioned farmhouse table and single bench. Customer supplied the 3×12 pine beams used for the table top and bench seat which came out of a barn. The base is new construction lumber.
Here are some highlights on the build process:
-The base and bench were done with traditional mortise and tenon joints which were then pegged with 3/8″ dowels.
-Monster splines made from 3/4″ plywood were used for the top for alignment and a little bit extra glue surface.
-Breadboard ends were glued in the center only with pins with the outer pin holes being elongated for wood movement.
-And the top was attached using the wood button method to allow for seasonal wood movement.
-The finish for the base is washable paint and the top was stained with dark walnut to match some of the other wood features in the customers house.

Craftsman style book shelf.

Finished with Espresso stain, walnut danish oil, poly, and dark wax. 100% reclaimed white oak from barn beams. Traditional mortise and tenon joinery – no metal fasteners. Mostly followed an existing plan with some minor changes for the customer.

Oak Beam Bench with hairpin legs.

Finally getting around to using some doors that were given to me a few months ago. Mostly playing around to see what I can come up with and in the process clear up some space in the shop.

The bench is made from a single door with some added scraps here and there. The seat panel is super reinforced with a stretcher directly beneath it with a plywood spacer the size of the panel for support.

Original glass door knobs that came with the doors are being reused as the finials (?), if that’s the correct word, on the top of the back rest. There was no way I was going to make this and not incorporate the knobs. Easily my favorite part of the project.

From 3 doors to 1 desk. All doors found in a barn. Two 4-panel doors that were pulled from and old house and tucked away in a barn. One door from a stall in the same barn serving as the top. Couldn’t bring myself to remove the hinges with the cut nails. Finished the top with spar urethane and the base was paint coated with wipe on poly.

Walnut Docking/Charging/Viewing Station

This is a commission piece from my Etsy store. A large docking station with a hidden drawer made of solid walnut and walnut veneer plywood with brass handles. Also included is a small ‘pencil’ box that is removable and portable. The front of the piece can be removed by releasing the bolt latch underneath and sliding straight up to reveal the hidden drawer. Channels run on either side under the middle tray to allow cords to run to the front for charging. An ‘easel’ completes the front of the piece with two grooves that allow for different viewing angles for different sizes of mobile devices. The thought behind this was to have an option to charge multiple devices while concealing most of the charging wires including the power strip that they all plug-in to. The middle-back of the tray also slides up in grooves which allows wires to be changed out easily for devices that will sit in the middle tray. The grooves or slits for the charging wires are wide enough for the wires but narrow enough to where the charging end of the wire does not fall back through the slits.
